Stitched Sheath for Gerber® Bear Grylls Parang Machete

SAFETY RECALL

The Stitched Sheath for the Gerber Bear Grylls Parang machete is made of black nylon, with only stitching on the curved side of the sheath, 5 rivets on the bottom of the sheath and 2 rivets bordering the strap on top of the sheath. It was sold as part of the Parang machete package and as part of Gerber’s Apocalypse Survival Kit. With a small number of the Stitched Sheaths, the Parang has cut through the stitching when the blade is taken from or replaced in the Sheath, posing a laceration hazard. This is more likely to occur when the Parang is inserted in the Sheath upside down.

The Stitched Sheath

The Fully-Riveted Sheath

If you have a Gerber Parang that came with a Stitched Sheath, stop using it immediately, store the Parang machete in a safe area away from children, and contact Gerber to receive instructions on how to receive a free replacement Fully-Riveted Sheath.

No other Chattanooga Bakery / MoonPie / LookOut products are affected by this recall.

The voluntary recall was initiated immediately upon learning that our peanut butter supplier, Sunland, Inc., has recalled product produced from May 1st, 2012 - September 24th, 2012. Sunland has stated that twenty nine people have reported Salmonella Bredeney PFGE matching illnesses in approximately 18 states. These illnesses were associated with Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, which was produced by Sunland, Inc.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Chattanooga Bakery's Peanut Butter Crunch products (9.6 ounce multipack and 2.4 ounce twin pack) have not been associated with any of the reported illnesses. Regardless, we are taking this precautionary step to protect our customers and their families from any possible risk. Customers who have purchased this item are urged not to eat the product, and to dispose of it or return it to the retailer for a full refund.

Important Garmin nüvi® Product Safety Recall Notice

Dear Garmin Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

DESCRIPTION

Garmin has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of Garmin's nüvi® brand of portable automotive GPS products due to a potential risk of battery overheating. Garmin has identified potential overheating issues when certain batteries manufactured by the third-party battery supplier within a limited date code range are used in certain Garmin nüvi models with a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. It appears that the interaction of these factors can, in rare circumstances, increase the possibility of overheating, which may lead to a fire hazard.

AFFECTED PRODUCTS

The recalled devices include a small subset of the following nüvi model numbers:

  • nüvi 200W, 250W, and 260W
  • nüvi 7xx and 7xxT (where xx is a two-digit number)

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

Determine your nüvi model number by looking at the label on the back or bottom of your nüvi. You must provide this and other information to determine whether your nüvi is affected by this recall.

To easily and quickly determine whether your nüvi is affected, go to www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall

If you do not have access to the web site, call (866) 957-1981 toll free in the United States with your nüvi serial number to determine if your nüvi is affected.

RESOLUTION

If you determine that your nüvi is affected by this recall, you must immediately stop using the device and return it to the directed Garmin-authorized service center for service. The unit's battery will be replaced with a new battery and a spacer will be inserted on top of the battery next to the PCB. When the battery is replaced and the service concluded, your nüvi will be immediately returned to you. You will not have to pay for any associated service or shipping charges. Do not attempt to remove the battery yourself. Promptly discharge the battery in any recalled nüvi devices to eliminate the possibility of the battery overheating. To safely discharge the battery, perform the following actions in order:

1. Disconnect the nüvi from all power cables and mounts.

2. Turn on the nüvi. The top right corner of the nüvi main menu displays the battery symbol and indicates the current battery charge level.

3. Let the nüvi sit until the battery is completely discharged and the nüvi turns itself off.

4. Do not re-charge or continue to use a recalled nüvi. After you discharge your nüvi battery, follow the instructions you received from Garmin for returning your nüvi.

After you discharge your nüvi battery, follow the instructions you received from Garmin for returning your nüvi.

CONCLUSION

This notice is being sent to you to correct the identified problem and provide the superior quality reflected in the Garmin brand products we are privileged to provide. If we fail to or are unable to remedy the defect at no charge within a reasonable amount of time, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave., SE, Washington, DC 20590 or call the toll free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY: 1- 800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

We also take this opportunity to re-emphasize that Garmin's existing product literature for nüvi devices instructs and warns customers not to expose the products to extremely high temperatures by leaving nüvi units in the windshield while unattended because of the extremely high temperatures that can be reached on a car dashboard on a hot, sunny day. These high temperatures can cause the battery to swell, which could contribute to overheating risks.

Garmin sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience that this matter has caused. We value your business and your faith in our company and want to maintain your confidence in and support of our entire line of products. Even through our handling of this incident, we endeavor to retain and strengthen your trust in the future.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE – RECALL OF CERTAIN SMITH & WESSON MODEL 22A PISTOLS - August 14, 2009

Smith & Wesson has elected to voluntarily initiate a corrective action plan involving the recall of certain 22A pistols.

This recall applies only to 22A pistols manufactured from August 1, 2008 to February 19, 2009.  Effected pistols fall within the following serial number range:

1. Review your inventory and determine whether any 22A pistols falling within the serial number range outlined remain in your possession.  If so, we ask that you immediately return those pistols to Smith & Wesson.
